Since the majority of tattoos are done in the summer time, the big question you would ask is if it is safe to expose the tattooed area to the sun. Needless to say, tanning and major sun exposure is never good for your skin, especially with the problems with the environment and Ozone layer. A tattoo makes your skin even more fragile and gives the area an increased risk of developing skin cancer and other related skin issues.
Aside from the health risks associated, the sun will also fade your tattoos colors. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to avoid the sun altogether, but you will notice your tattoo becoming less vibrant the more you stay out in it. It won’t fade completely, but will lose a lot of the bright colors that were done originally.
Brand new tattoos are in even more need of cover up than ones that are older. It’s recommended that you keep it covered with no sunlight allowed to reach it for at least the first 3 months after getting it done.
Naturally we don’t want the tattoos we get to keep us out of the sunshine, so there are ways around it by using a few methods of protecting your new tattoo. Like most people, it is important to use sunscreen. SPF 30 and higher is the best to use, and perhaps just keeping a thin bandage on the area while waiting for it to completely heal. There are other ways to protect your tattoos, just research it a bit more!
